That's the end of this reflection.
We left the Xavier Castle and made our way to Manresa, the little town on the River Cardonner, near Barcelona. It was here that St Ignatius lived and prayed in a cave for the better part of a year - from March, 1522 until February, 1523. It was here that he received divine help from Jesus and Mary and composed the Spiritual Exercises. It was here that he received the greatest illumination of his life by the side of the river. The cave has been turned into a small chapel which was far too small for our 50 pilgrims. We celebrated Mass in the church adjacent to the cave-chapel.
